The “Non-League Paper” above reports on an opening day Southern League Division One East defeat for Wivenhoe on 13/8/05. Manager Steve Pitt was still in the process of trying to rebuild his team following a number of close season departures to higher paying, but lower level, local clubs. The Dragons’ line up was: 1) Ollie Sanders, 2) Michael Simmons, 3) Liam Phelan (Sub: Danny Allston), 4) Sam Sines, 5) Kenny Brooks, 6) Paul Westren (Sub: Terry Rymer), 7) Paul Hillier 8) Tabani Mabvura 9) Lee Townrow, 10) Earl Sterling 11) Ben Wake. Attendance 107

Wood won the Title that season while Wivenhoe’s rebuild saw them eventually reach the Play-Off Final, defeating the Hertfordshire club 3-1 along the way in the reverse fixture at Broad Lane. The contrasting fortunes of the two clubs since can be best illustrated by the fact that by April 2023 in the same week that the Dragons saved themselves from the possibility of relegation into the Essex & Suffolk Border League with a last day 5-1 home win over Enfield Borough, Boreham Wood were defeating Yeovil Town 1-0 to secure a National League play-off spot for potential entry into the Football League !.
